TITLE: Accessibility Assessment Specialist & Modification Navigator
DESCRIPTION / SUMMARY:
The services provided by Options for Independent Living Accessibility Assessment Specialist will impact people with disabilities leading them to more independent and productive lives. This person will provide accessibility assessments to remove barriers in residential homes and vehicles.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School Education/Associate's Degree preferred
Experience: Two years of experience working with people with disabilities. Not required but preferred background in working with AutoCAD, Occupational Therapy, Construction, or adaptive equipment. People with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
Travel: Position includes frequent travel. Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance are required.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide accessibility assessment and technical assistance specific to assistive technology and modifications for residences that could be either owned or rented by people with disabilities.
2. Assessments will also be done for vehicles, mobility devices, patient lifts or other related equipment.
3. Provide a comprehensive written report and drawing specifications, if appropriate, for referral source and subsequent contractor. Each report will list findings of barriers and specific recommendations to remedy each barrier. The goal is to create maximum independence and provide financially responsible justification for the recommendations.
4. Provide follow-up support to IRIS Participants, CLTS Members, and their referral sources. The support will include but not limited to; soliciting cost estimates from contractors/vendors and guiding consumers through the modification process.
5. Provide short-term use of durable medical equipment and/or adaptive equipment to IRIS Participants and CLTS Members to keep them safe until their recommended modifications are approved by their funding source.
6. Assist in promotion and utilization of accessible showcase model home and office complex for the educate people with disabilities and others about “universal design,” assistive technology, and other features that increase independence.
7. Practice and promote the Independent Living Philosophy in all aspects of this position. The Independent Living Philosophy promotes independent living services that are driven and directed by people with disabilities, serve people with all types of disabilities, and promote equal opportunities, self-determination, and self-respect.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Act as a team member in performing other assigned duties and attending meetings for the efficient operations of Options.
2. Attend job-related meetings and training opportunities.
3. Other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or Executive Director.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
