Position Title: Activity Leader

Employee Type: Seasonal, Part-time, approx. 20 hours per week. Start date set in August.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, generally from 1-6pm depending on the day

Pay: $25.62-26.90 based on experience

Location: Onsite at one of the following locations in the Richmond District in San Francisco:

  • Alamo Elementary School
  • George Peabody Elementary School
  • Lafayette Elementary School
  • McCoppin Elementary School
  • Argonne Elementary School


JOB SUMMARY

The Activity Leader’s responsibilities are 2-fold:

  • Responsible for planning a different enrichment activity class for each day/week.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe environment for students.

Examples of enrichment activity classes are: Arts n' Crafts, Photography, Dance, Cartooning, Singing, Fashion Arts, Sports.

Examples of group activities are: science, media (videotaping, Zine making, etc), sports, arts, local field trips.


RESPONSIBILITIES


DIRECT SERVICE

  • Responsible for your own group of students (up to 22 students).

  • Designs, implements and evaluates program activity classes.

  • Develops and supervises daily structured activities for campers.

  • Applies behavior guidance models and addresses student behaviors.

  • Applies cooperative learning strategies to reduce traditional teaching structures and increase youth voice and engagement.

  • Facilitates and ensures timely youth clean up of all program spaces before transitions to another space or activity


ADMINISTRATIVE/PROFESSIONALISM

  • Communicates to Program Manager about any programmatic, personnel or student concerns.

  • Understand and follow through with mandated reporting procedures.

  • Understand and follow through with all COVID-19 compliance regulations.

  • Responsible for communicating with Managers and gathering supply needs for their programming.

  • Adheres to program attendance policies including “clocking” in and out, vacation requests, and call out procedures.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience working with youth.
  • Availability Monday through Friday during after-school program hours (approx. 1pm-6pm, depending on the school and the day)
  • Critical Consciousness: Able to weave equity and cultural relevance into all aspects of planned activities. Able to plan and facilitate programming intentionally. Understanding of marginalized communities. Strong advocate for youth voice and leadership.
  • Willingness to lead, participate, and engage in group activities with students.


Requirements For All Staff:

  • DOJ Live Scan Fingerprinting: All employees who have contact with youth under the age of 18 must be fingerprinted under procedures established by the DOJ. We cannot employ any individual who has been convicted of a serious or violent felony, as defined by the California Penal Code. The organization also receives updated information from the DOJ during employment. Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records on a case by case basis.
  • Must meet SFUSD Instructional Aide Requirements: An Associate’s degree or higher OR Official transcripts reflecting 48 college units and a high school diploma/equivalent OR Completion of CBEST and a high school diploma/equivalent.
  • TB Test: Every employee who has regular contact with youth is required to have a current tuberculin skin test or an X-ray examination of the lungs (with a negative result) prior to reporting for duty.
  • Employment Authorization: Employees must be able to prove that they are authorized to work in the United States using any of the documentation allowed according to current I-9 processes.
  • Covid-19 Vaccination: SFUSD requires all subcontractors to mandate Covid-19 vaccination: employees must be vaccinated or have a medical or religious exemption to initiate an accommodation and the interactive process.


BENEFITS and SAFETY:

All staff earn sick and vacation accruals starting on the first day of employment. Holidays are paid for those who are scheduled to work half-time or more.

We already operated in-person summer programming, so we are well-versed in what a safe in-person childcare program looks like. Our program follows all San Francisco Department of Public Health safety requirements for childcare programs: recommended mask-wearing and social distance, regular monitor testing available on site, indoor ventilation, childcare cohorts, cleaning and sanitizing, food safety, etc. However, the risk of Covid-19 exposure cannot be completely removed.

Essential Physical Requirements
:

Typical Working Conditions: School classroom-type environment.

Equipment Used: Computer, telephone, printer, fax.

Essential Physical Tasks: This job requires frequent lifting, pushing and pulling under 10 lbs and occasionally up to 20 lbs. Because of the use of the computer, this job frequently uses the keyboard which requires repetitive motion and dexterity. In the course of the job, there will be frequent walking, sometimes over uneven and slippery surfaces, and sitting for periods of time. There is also occasional reaching.

Covid-19: Employees must be vaccinated or have a medical or religious exemption. This job is working in person with children and alongside other staff, therefore wearing a mask is required at all times (exclusions apply). Staff and students must maintain a safe distance, must frequently wash their hands, as well as sanitize before and after every transition. More information/requirements regarding covid regulations will be supplied through trainings.
