Job description
Northern Berkshire Pediatrics (NBP) is looking for a part-time or full-time psychiatric APRN to be a member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team in an independently owned pediatric primary care setting.
The APRN will provide support in managing the psychological aspects of a patient’s care: including the management of acute and chronic psychiatric conditions and disorders, psychopharmacological treatment, coordination of care in concert and collaboration with the medical and behavior health providers at NBP. The APRN will also participate in quality improvement processes to provide high quality care to their pediatric patients.
Education:
Masters level education required.
Doctoral level education preferred.
Requirements:
- Board Certification APRN in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry OR Family Psychiatry OR Board Certification as a Pediatric Mental Health Specialist
- Current License as an APRN (NP or CNS) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
- A current and valid controlled substance registration issued by the DPH Controlled Substances Program and the United States Drug Enforcement Agency
- Be registered in the Mass PAT Program
- Be passionate about working directly with pediatric patients, their families, and multidisciplinary staff
Experience:
- A minimum of 2 years in behavioral health experience providing care to children and families. (Less than 2 years’ experience would be considered if behavioral health nursing or medical leadership is available for mentorship consistent with Massachusetts regulations.)
- Possess clinical skills that pertain to developmental issues, communication with children and families, and theoretical understanding of pediatric psychiatric diagnoses.
- Ideally be knowledgeable of resources within the community and have a working knowledge of inpatient and outpatient referral sources for mental health issues in Berkshire County. (Or be willing to network and become familiar with our community resources as part of the APRN role at NBP)
- Possess an overall comfort with computers electronic health record software.
- Be comfortable with collaboration on a multidisciplinary team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:
- Complete a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation for referred patients, including a review of previous medical records, laboratory findings, and information from other historians. Based on the outcome of the evaluation, provide diagnosis according to the DSM 5 criteria.
- · Provide age appropriate psychiatric care for a wide range of patients, including children, adolescents, and young adult patients in concert and collaboration with the Northern Berkshire Pediatrics providers. Be able to triage, assess, and plan treatment for all areas of mental health and developmental disabilities including but not limited to prescribing psychiatric medications (antidepressants, antipsychotics, and mood stabilizers).
- Maintain and record all care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner both in the electronic medical record.
- Engage in various educational and professional development opportunities to enhance the ability to provide up to date evidence-based care.
- Share knowledge with other clinical and behavioral staff to improve the overall clinical practice within Northern Berkshire Pediatrics and contribute to a productive team based environment.
