Overview and Responsibilities:CBS News and Television Stations is seeking a Director, Human Resources to join the LA‐based CTS Human Resources group in providing HR leadership for our LA-based locations including KCBS/KCAL, the Stations Group Creative Services and Streaming Teams.
Responsibilities include providing practical and strategic advice on a wide variety of areas to enhance the staff’s engagement, performance, and overall experience.
The Director, Human Resources will specifically focus on the following duties which will include, but are not limited to:
Serve as HRBP to all Los Angeles-based employees
Act as a trusted advisor and resource to Station and Department leadership
Connect with employees and serve as a resource by providing real‐time advice and counseling and monitor employee engagement and morale
Serve as an internal resource to effectively coach and build on leadership goals for the various Los Angeles based teams
Build trust and improve employee engagement; support mission, values and culture in ways that support business objectives
Collaborate with our various internal HR partners on initiatives such as performance management, talent acquisition, learning and development, and other training tools and resources (i.e., leadership training, mitigating bias, career pathing, etc.)
Field and resolve general performance management issues and employee relations matters such as replacements/terminations, performance issues, and incident‐based behavioral concerns. In partnership with VP HR, provide counsel to people leaders and employees on employee relations matters, evaluate underlying issues, brainstorm solutions, document process, follow-up as needed, and advise management as necessary
Partner effectively with the Employee Relations team for investigations into harassment, discrimination, or other complex allegations
At the direction of the VP HR, partner with Labor Relations on any collective bargaining agreement related matters and Employment Law as necessary
Partner with other Broadcast Center Departments as needed, including Facilities and Security
Ensure the station/location is following and in compliance with all equal employment opportunity (EEO) and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requirements Basic Qualifications:
7+ years of HRBP/Employee Relations experience, preferably in a broadcasting, entertainment, hospitality, retail, or other service/unionized environment
Bachelor’s Degree preferred Additional Qualifications:
Experience working with a large per diem/freelancer population.
Proven track record of building trust and respect quickly in environments unfamiliar with HR.
Able to work in a fast‐paced, ever‐changing environment where time is of the essence.
Flexibility in work hours ‐ productions can be 24/7, 365
SHRM-CP or PHR Certification a plus!
Previous Local News Station HR experience
Proven knowledge of employment laws and sound HR principles
Effective business partner with ability to influence senior management and drive organizational efficiency
Shown ability to deliver client focused HR solutions to business problems
Strategic problem solver with the ability to tactically translate ideas to workable solutions
Proven good judgment and ability to work autonomously or as part of high functioning team
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
High level of interpersonal and diplomacy skills

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Hiring Salary Range: $124,000.00 - 155,000.00.
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
