Role Summary:

  • Support the planning and installation of a Workshop for the department
  • Establishing and implementing internal processes in coordination with I/EF and other customers
  • Finding and using synergies with existing resources available in NAR within the VW Group including VW Group TCC and ERL, Audi of America EG and Audi dealer workshops
  • Managing a fleet of series vehicles and prototypes in coordination with the system and function development engineers in the department.
  • The cars in the fleet retrofitted with multiple systems and serving multiple purposes should be managed to achieve high efficiency by finding synergies between test drives and trips
  • The role involves working closely with other locations and entities of the VWGoA to ensure efficient use of resources that are already present in the US and to prevent double investments
  • The role will involve frequent travels to these locations in different parts of the US to coordinate the fleet, to trouble shoot and to rework the cars if necessary
  • Adaptation, application and updating of prototypes and series vehicles to achieve high quality analysis data as per specifications
  • Synchronizing the activities with the different R&D departments at AUDI AG in cross-organizational teams
  • Responsible for organizing the workshop activities in order to realize the project goals on time within the budget and with the required quality
  • Responsible for the safety of the workshop area
  • Instruct and coordinate a team of contractors for internal workshop tasks

Role Responsibilities:

Definition, synchronization and execution of test plans in close cooperation with AUDI AG (30%)

  • Responsible for preparing and executing the test activities in the US
  • Responsible for synchronizing the test plan with AUDI AG for maximum efficiency and to make sure that all the customer and regulatory requirements are met
  • Responsible for planning and organizing the test fleet and all the workshop activities in order to realize the project goals and for ensuring that the budgets and schedules are adhered to and that quality levels are achieved
  • Responsible for ensuring the safety of the AoA workshop

Adaptation and application of the test fleet (70%)

  • Responsible for building up a AoA workshop and for defining and ordering tools, equipment and vehicles required for realizing the project requirements
  • Responsible for installing and evaluating test systems
  • Responsible for the troubleshooting and calibration of tools and measurement systems
  • Responsible for installation, reworking and application of control units, sensors and adaptation according to requirements and specifications
  • Responsible for reworking and adapting the test vehicles in order to prepare them for the planned activities
  • Work in close cooperation with the other fleet management locations of the VW Group in the US and be available at the site for troubleshooting and reworking of the fleet
  • Check and Control the entire test fleet to ensure that they fulfill the customer and regulatory requirements
  • Preliminary Evaluation of the test results
  • Responsible for the allocated workshop budget and for ensuring that the schedules, quality and budgetary target are met


Qualifications:

Years of Experience:

  • 5 years of relevant experience

Education – Required:

  • Degree in Engineering (mechanical, electrical, computer science or comparable)

Education – Desired:

  • Advanced Degree in Engineering (mechanical, electrical, computer science or comparable)

Skills:

  • Strong technical and analytical skills as well as a thorough knowledge of the inner workings of motor vehicles and their various components and accessories
  • Experience in product pre-development and development areas
  • Knowledge of Volkswagen Group/ AUDI AG internal product development processes
  • Wide and reliable network within AUDI AG and the Volkswagen Group
  • Ability to work independently
  • Open minded and empathic work style

Specialized Skills – Required:

  • Evidence of extensive workshop experience including the use of a range of workshop machines and can demonstrate a high level of
  • technical expertise
  • Specialist knowledge and comprehensive experience in automotive software including flashing and updating of ECUs
  • Advanced knowledge of vehicle and bus architecture
  • Experience in reworking, assembly and installation of Hardware components for test and research purposes
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the field of sensor application
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle diagnostics

Specialized Skills – Desired:

  • Experience in the field of ADAS and HAD systems and applications
  • Prior experience managing test fleets for level 2+ ADAS system development (eg. Supercruise)

Work Flexibility:

  • The fleet management process involves working closely with the already available resources and locations of the VW Group entities present in the US. The role will involve frequent travels to these locations in different parts of the US to coordinate the fleet, to trouble shoot and to rework the cars

Salary range is dependent on factors such as geographical differentials, industry-based experience, skills, training, credentials, and other qualifications.


In the city of San Jose, CA, the salary range is $118,000.00 - $171,100.00.
