Job Description

Avery Dennison Smartrac is seeking an Electronics Packaging Engineer to join the RFID Platform Innovation Team in North Carolina. The Platform Innovation Team is responsible for developing, optimizing, and implementing proprietary products, processes and equipment for our RFID manufacturing plants worldwide. This position is a hands-on role with the responsibility to learn to operate RFID equipment and then help optimize and develop new products and the next generation of platforms.

• Learn to operate RFID equipment.
• Propose improvements, lead ideation and design of process and product ideas with global cross-functional teams, to engineer innovative solutions.
• Lead development, qualification and commercialization of new process and product ideas.
  • Create project plans including cost benefit analysis, timelines
  • Build internally and/or work with suppliers to make solutions.
  • Arrange and run engineering trials.
  • Complete process and product testing, data analysis and summary reports.
  • Lead development reviews, discussion of test results and action plans.
  • Identify key process parameters & best practices; clearly document SOPs to ensure clean roll-outs to other facilities.
  • Develop maintenance and training plans and conduct training.
  • Act as technical support for the period immediately following roll-outs.
• Assist with materials development and qualification
• Support other global projects or facilities that require specific process expertise.

• 4+ years of relevant engineering experience with high speed, precision manufacturing with Bachelor’s Degree. A Masters Degree is a plus.
• Experience in RFID (preferred), SMT/PCB or semiconductor manufacturing
• Experience with roll to roll manufacturing preferred
• Experience in motion control: specifying, integrating and tuning a broad range of systems including high-speed servos, robotics, transducers, and high speed machine vision systems, with a hands on background.
• Direct experience in design, integration and validation of controls in high volume automated process equipment for high precision assemblies and test equipment. Capable of taking a project from concept design through commercialization.
• Experience in creating technical specifications, machine qualification requirements, design of experiments and failure analysis.
• Understands machine qualification including calibration, capability, repeatability and reproducibility.
• Creative and resourceful problem solver
• Good organizational and communication skills; ability to handle multiple projects/tasks simultaneously in a fast paced environment.
• Global travel will be required, up to 50%
