Rockhurst University is seeking an innovative and dynamic Financial Coach for the Prosperity Center for Financial Opportunity. The Financial Coach is responsible for assisting low to moderate income individuals in developing plans of action that are intended to help the client reach their goals and achieve financial stability. The Financial Coach is expected to focus services on a one-on-one coaching format. The Financial Coach will also conduct classes and workshops on topics such as budgeting, credit building, financial aid, and banking products. We are not a broker dealer and cannot hold FINRA Licenses. The Financial Coach reports directly to the Prosperity Center Program Director.

Organization and Program Overview:

The Prosperity Center is one of 70+ FOCs (Financial Opportunity Centers) and the first to open its doors in the City of Kansas City. The Prosperity Center is based out of Rockhurst University in partnership with LISC (Local Initiatives Support Corporation) and United Way of Greater Kansas City. FOCs help low to moderate income families boost earnings, reduce expenses, and make appropriate financial decisions that lead to asset building through an integrated service model approach. The centers provide individuals and families with services across three critical and interconnected areas: employment services, financial coaching and access to income supports.

Prosperity Center Mission:

The Prosperity Center applies an integrated approach of financial coaching, career guidance and access to community resources, to empower individuals and families to make positive choices toward their financial goals to achieve economic freedom.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one on one financial coaching. to engage, teach, and motivate people regarding their personal finances.
    • Collaborate with individuals to help improve their financial situations, while providing a wide lens on their financial health to shift the approach to proactive financial management.
    • Work with individuals to complete a detailed financial assessment.
    • Work with individuals to complete a spending plan and provide strategies for budget improvements.
    • Access an individuals credit report/score and provide strategies for credit building or assist in establishing credit.
    • Document balance sheets and provide strategies for increasing net worth.
    • Develop action plans in partnership with enrolled individual and provide tools, resources, support, and accountability to assist in goal achievement.
  • Conduct classes and workshops on topics such as budgeting, credit building, financial aid, and banking products, both on-site and off-site.
  • Work with Life Success Coach in conducting workshops and coaching clients who receive our bundled service of employment coaching.
  • Work with Rockhurst student success offices and student organization to look for opportunities to educate and coach.
  • Provide biweekly financial write-ups for social media.
  • Participate in quarterly FOC network and sector meetings.

Outcome Tracking:

  • Use Salesforce Lightening, a client management system, to document and reflect the outcome of participants accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Complete Combined Financial Assessment (CFA) for financial counseling participants.
  • Work with the Prosperity Center team to ensure that any changes to the individuals CFA (new job, new benefit, change in credit score) is properly documented.
  • Develop relationships with local financial institutions and community organizations and foster existing partner relationships.
  • Collaborate with mainstream financial institutions and other community partners in providing financial education to low to moderate income individuals and families.
  • Create and update a network of referral organizations to help you assist the client meet their goals (e.g., local housing counseling agency, legal aid, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications (required):

  • 2 years experience working with low to moderate income individuals, as well as some knowledge of available community resources.
  • A strong understanding of personal finances, particularly in the areas of budgeting, asset building, and credit building.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Qualifications (preferred):

  • 2 or more previous work experience in the financial sector (banking, lending, insurance, investments) is a plus.
  • Ability to provide financial counseling/coaching services in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • A bachelors degree from a four-year accredited institution.
  • Experience in facilitating learning workshops and understanding of adult learning styles.
