Job description

Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village in New Gloucester, Maine seeks an energetic, detail-oriented, and efficient individual to clean and take care of the Shakers’ households, the Shaker Museum, offices, and public restrooms. Year-round services are needed.

From May through October, the Shaker Museum requires maintenance 2-3 times a week due to heavy traffic. This is about 6 hrs. per week to be completed before public tours begin at 10:30 am. Duties include general housekeeping such as vacuuming, dry-dusting, cob-webbing, and full care of public restrooms, including sanitizing and stocking supplies. Occasional duties include glass cleaning, wiping handprints from walls, and mopping as needed on a limited number of high-traffic floors. (A Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule is ideal, however, alternative schedules will be considered.)

The Shakers’ private residences require once-weekly care. This is about 2 hrs. per week. Duties include general housekeeping and cleaning as needed general hallways, Chapel and Music Room, communal dining room, and kitchen, and maintaining guest rooms. (Fridays are preferred, however, alternative schedules will be considered.)

From the end of October until the end of May, the Shaker Museum is closed. Winter housekeeping needs are focused primarily on the Shakers’ residences and business offices.

Available hours: Summer Schedule: May – October 8 hrs. per week

Winter Schedule: October – April 4 hrs. per week
