Role Summary
The Interiors Engineer provides world-class customer service while keeping safety and compliance the top priorities. This individual contributor splits responsibilities between aircraft acquisitions and interiors engineering. This person will act as Point of Contact (POC) liaising between Alaska Airlines (AS), manufacturers, leasing companies, and manage all customer activities as part of the aircraft acquisitions processes. Additionally, this person will work with a team of exceptional engineers to establish process improvements for preventative aircraft maintenance procedures and reliability which will support operational performance goals in the interest of safety, cost reduction, and fleet maintenance resulting in world class service at AS.
Key Duties
For Aircraft Acquisitions:
- Liaises between AS and the manufacturer of new aircraft and related equipment during production and delivery.
- Analyzes and processes manufacturer Non-Conformance Records (NCRs) of each aircraft build.
- Coordinates communications between AS cross-divisional stakeholders and manufacturer relative to new production aircraft.
- Monitors the manufacturers productions schedules, attends status meetings, and makes assessments of the possible effects on delivery dates.
- Coordinates AS support for, and leads customer walk inspections, flights, and delivery day activities.
- Escalates, as necessary, any production or delivery concerns, safety items, or issues, to the Manager of Interiors Engineering for evaluation.
For Interiors Engineering:
- Take initiative to develop solution to complex repairs, alterations, and maintenance specifications and provides engineering assistance to all departments within the maintenance & engineering division.
- Make recommendations on preventative maintenance procedures and reliability improvements in the interest of safety, cost reduction, and fleet maintenance improvements.
- Participate in, and occasionally lead, major modification projects driving change to the interior of the aircraft, keeping safety and compliance as the highest priority.
- Provide aircraft maintenance solutions while maintaining configuration compliance.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required
- Bachelor’s degree with a focus in aerospace, mechanical engineering, or an additional two years of training/experience in lieu of this degree.
- 2 years of experience in aerospace, mechanical engineering or related experience Aircraft Interiors experience.
- Strong knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, operating policies, and procedures.
- Theoretical and practical knowledge of aircraft interiors (Airbus A320 and Boeing 737NG/MAX preferred).
- Ability to learn Alaska Airlines Maintenance and Project & Change Management Systems.
- Strong analytical and complex problem-solving ability, particularly in identifying fleet issues and trends.
- Ability to meet assigned project deadlines with self-directed decision-making confidence.
- Excellent communication (e.g., verbal, written, and listening), presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to produce clear and concise documentation.
- Detail oriented and highly organized, with ability to multi-task and work independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum age of 18.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred
- A&P License.
- Project management experience.
- Aircraft Interiors certification experience.
Airport SIDA Badge Requirements

Salary Range
$89,400 - $134,000 / year
Salary Details
Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
