Group Data comes under AirAsia Digital which is responsible for spearheading digital transformation across AirAsia. Group Data works on business and operations problems across all entities in the AirAsia Group. Key problems we solve include improving revenue and reducing costs through large-scale data federation, predictive and prescriptive analytics, state-of-the-art machine/deep learning, intelligent scheduling and optimization, experimentation, and other advanced techniques. Group Data is also responsible for the data lakes across all our businesses, deriving insights and value from them and sharing them back with the businesses. In addition, Group Data also actively participates in innovation and training in the Redbeat Academy as well as collaboration with strategic partners like Google, GE, Airbus, and academia.

We are looking for a talented full stack engineer - Data Science to join our Ops Optimisation Center of Excellence under Group Data.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• This position is for full individual contribution as part of the team, and is a combination of Data Engineering, Data Science and Software Engineering.

• Work in a cross-functional, product-focused team specialized on Data Science AI/ML/DL and Operations Research for large scale optimisation problems.

• Support our Data scientists in making their prototypes production ready .

• Transform POC-level products (Optimisation, AI/ML/DL, dashboards, scripts, APIs, programs, (dynamic) reports, insights, codes, databases, etc) created by Data Scientists, to professional products compliant with AirAsia standards.

• Package, adapt, transform and deploy the deliverables and outputs of Data Scientists to become production-level Data Science, ML/AI/DL and Optimisation Products, part of other Software Products, or to be consumed by internal software/data products and teams. This includes but is not limited to: operational products, professional dashboards integrated with existing or new software/Data products, professional APIs, production-level microservices.

• Work on Front-End and Back-End web development, mobile app development, and other types of software development.

• Responsible for developing, building and maintaining Optimization and AI/ML/DL products and their infrastructure.

• Shape the Data Science (AI/ML/DL, Optimization) product’s architecture and have ownership over the data pipelines and CI/CD workflows.

• Takes charge of inputs and outputs of Data Scientists, and complement their skill sets and experience.

• Possess capabilities of Data Engineers: start from raw data, collect and source data, and design, create and maintain data pipelines and prepare everything for Data Scientists to make use of.

• Together with the team, you will work iteratively on implementing sustainable solutions which deliver business value and are backed by a well-designed implementation that is easy to change, self-documenting, and well-tested.

• Identify requirements, scope your research, develop prototypes, and deliver solutions that directly provide value to the business.

• Be always curious to learn new technologies and to gain a deeper insight of the domain

• Enjoy sharing your expertise and helping both within your team and outside of it

• Collaborate and work across functional and multidisciplinary teams in a dynamic environment to develop an understanding of evolving/agile business needs.

• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to create projects with a high level of innovation.

• Documenting development processes and complying with best practices in data protection.

You got to have these to carry out the Job:

• Must have successfully completed a lot of industry data science projects in Data Engineering, data science and Software Engineering/Development.

• You have a good understanding of Agile software development methodologies and have previously worked in Agile teams

• You show a Full Stack mindset. You know how to proactively gather all the information you need for working on every aspect of our product: From in-depth algorithm development and cloud deployment configurations, to coding the Frontend client, designing the user interface and discussing UX workflows with our stakeholders.

• Experienced in developing, building and maintaining Optimization/Data Science products and their infrastructure

• Experienced in workflow management platform, like AirFlow or similar

• You have an inside-out understanding of SOLID and GRASP, and you can easily identify appropriate OOP design patterns for your solutions

• Experience using Google Cloud Platform products and services (such as BigQuery and App Engine, AI Platform, Cloud Big Table, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Run and Kubernetes Engine), Google Data Studio, Docker, Kubernetes, Git, etc.

• Both front-end and back-end programming languages such as Python, Java (server backend and/or mobile app), JavaFx (UI/UX), Golang, Angular or React and modern JavaScript (NodeJS, and its frameworks and libraries), HTML and CSS, and experience with code versioning, code review and documentation.

• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, data pipeline and workflow management tools, various messaging and stream processing, data ETL from a wide variety of data sources.

• You understand CI/CD pipelines, and have experience with cloud providers (GCP, AWS or Azure) and containerized application delivery solutions (Docker, K8s)

• Experience with database architecture and design to create storage solutions for managing distributed ledger and related data/state in files/database systems.

• You’ve interfaced with RESTful JSON APIs, GitLab and you are proficient in TDD

• Experience with continuous integration and build automation platform like Jenkis or similar

• Good working knowledge of productivity tools such as G Suite, Git, Jira, Confluence.

• Proficient understanding of cloud, server and distributed computing and deployment principles.

• Have experience of test automation, creation of code repositories, creating and maintaining production-level APIs and microservices, framework orchestration, collaboration and workflow management, data preparation and integration.

• Continuous refactoring and writing clean code are your second nature! Regardless of the programming language you’re working with, you are always looking out for best practices.

Good to have:

• Knowledge and skills of Operations Research, Machine Learning, AI, Deep Learning and predictive analysis NOT required but the candidate has to be familiar with. Because those tasks will be taken care of by Data Scientists, Machine Learning & AI experts, etc. This role should complement the skills of Data Scientists, rather than having mostly overlapping skills with Data Scientists.

About You:

• You have 8+ years of relevant experience and Masters in Computer Science/Engineering

• You are great in Back-End and Front-End development with a product oriented mindset

• You are great in Data Structure & algorithms, Aptitude and problem solving

• You are great in all aspect of software engineering

• Good academic records

• Exceptional track record in delivering quality engineering solutions at different levels of the stack

• Strong experience in distributed systems design and best practices

• Strong experience with continuous integration, test automation, and monitoring

• Strong experience in application deployment and high availability

• Ability to work on a cross-functional team touching different parts of our core services
