IntroductionTo repair and maintain the City's infrastructure of sewer lines, lift stations, water lines and streets in a manner that helps ensure uninterrupted services to New Brighton residential and commercial property owners. Essential Accountabilities
1) Ensures clear sewer lines through a planned, effective program of cleaning, jetting, flushing, vacuuming, maintaining and inspecting lines, lift stations, catch basins, storm sewers and manholes throughout the City.
Work is planned and completed with consistent quality and timeliness that minimizes sewer service interruptions and therefore creates few problems, complaints or legal actions for the City and its residents.
Responses to sewer back up calls are prompt and all sewer back up report documentation is timely, accurate and complete.
Accurate locating of underground utilities before digging on repair projects helps ensure worker safety and uninterrupted utility service to property owners.
2) Maintains the flow of water to property owners through a planned, effective program of monitoring pumps and reservoirs, water quality checks, water balancing with chemicals, hydrant flushing, connecting or disconnecting water supplies, water equipment repair, valve exercise and maintenance, and raising or lowering valve boxes and stand pipes.
Work is planned and completed with consistent quality and timeliness that minimizes water service interruptions and therefore creates few problems, complaints or legal actions for the City and its residents.
Responses to water quality complaint calls are prompt and all required documentation on such calls and actions taken is timely, accurate and complete.

3) Ensures that the surface infrastructure is kept in a safe and usable condition through a planned, effective program of repair and maintenance for streets, curb and gutter, sidewalks, City parking lots and any other surface infrastructure for which the City is responsible.
Work is planned and completed with consistent quality and timeliness that minimizes traffic interruptions and safety hazards and therefore creates few problems, complaints or legal actions for the City and its residents.
Responses to seasonal complaint calls or identification of potential hazards are prompt and all required documentation on such calls and actions taken is timely, accurate and complete.
Accurate locating of underground utilities before digging and watching for above ground utilities while on repair projects helps ensure worker safety and uninterrupted utility service to property owners.
4) Performs get-ready and preventative maintenance checks before operating any equipment for which responsible when completing work assignments.
Required equipment logs, records and any other paperwork is completed and submitted in a timely and accurate manner
5) Performs snow/ice removal activities from streets, alleys, parking lots, and sidewalks.
Plow snow from streets, alleys, parking lots and sidewalks.
Properly apply salt and sand to streets to ensure safe passage for motorists.
6) Performs miscellaneous custodial duties around City buildings as scheduled.
Custodial work is completed on time and as expected.
7) Performs other job-related responsibilities as apparent or directed by the employee"s supervisor. Minimum Qualifications
High School or GED equivalent
Must hold a valid Class B commercial driver's license with air brake and tanker endorsements or
ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and to perform strenuous
physical labor under adverse field conditions (Please Refer to additional information for Functional Job

Ability to work overtime, shift changes, or be on-call as necessary or assigned
Ability to respond to emergency callouts within thirty (30) minutes of notification
Desired/Preferred Qualifications
New Desired/Preferred Qualifications - ~ Public Works Certificate or three years of related municipal government experience.
~ Previous work experience in general building maintenance, electrical, and plumbing.
~ Previous experience with sanitary sewers (lift stations, pipe, or jetter/vacuum units)
~ Previous experience with light welding and fabrication
~ Previous experience operating medium and/or heavy equipment (e.g. tractor backhoe, skidsteer,
wheel loader).
~ Previous work related experience in snow removal using trucks, loaders and motor
graders.
~ Proficient in using a personal computer and operating Microsoft Windows based software
programs.
Physical Requirements
Strength, stamina and agility to perform manual labor and equipment operations, occasionally under adverse seasonal conditions. Ability to perform the physical requirements outlined in the Functional Job Description.
