Institutional Credit Management (ICM) works closely with Citi’s wholesale credit businesses (including Citi Global Wealth (CGW), and the Institutional Clients Group (ICG) businesses which include Banking, Capital Markets and Advisory (BCMA), Global Spread Products (GSP), Third Party Credit Risk (TPCR), Citi Commercial Bank (CCB), Markets (Markets), Securities Services (SS), and Treasury and Trade Solutions (TTS)) to serve as a critical component of our First Line of Defense (1LoD) for wholesale and counterparty credit risk management. ICM works with the Independent Risk organization to ensure best-in-class risk and controls, as well as client responsiveness.

The ICM Portfolio Management team is a new organization established in the 1LoD comprised of functions covering Limits Management (including Limits Setting and Limits Monitoring), Portfolio Monitoring and Early Warning Credit Management. Through these functions, ICM Portfolio Management is responsible for:

  • Establishing, measuring and monitoring of Wholesale Credit limits, including leading remediation of limit breaches
  • Defining, monitoring and remediating early warning indicators, and
  • Establishing a portfolio review process across both Wholesale Lending Credit Risk (WLCR) and Counterparty Credit Risk (CCR)

Position Description:

Portfolio Monitoring is a new team, within the ICM Portfolio Management unit responsible for the design, implementation and subsequent management of the portfolio monitoring processes, systems and controls across a range of underlying dimensions, including, but not limited to industry, geography, asset class, product, and legal entity. The scope of Portfolio Monitoring’s oversight includes each of Citi’s wholesale businesses, thereby ensuring a consistent approach to the review of WLCR and CCR risks globally, including top and emerging risks, and the sizing of such risks relative to Citi’s risk appetite, limits, stress loss.

The successful candidate will help lead implementation of an engagement plan, including contributing to the design of important processes and controls, operating models, governance frameworks, and business level technology requirements and testing. He/she will have oversight responsibility for a portfolio that will include some combination of global lines of business, region (APAC, EMEA, LATAM and or NAM), and industry verticals. This is a highly visible role within Citi and will deliver value by working collaboratively with senior management, stakeholders across the various lines of business and 1LoD and Second Line of Defense (2LoD). The successful candidate will be a seasoned credit officer and effective business leader, with a deep knowledge of the businesses, industries, geographies, and products classes in which Citi operates. Depending on the candidate, will report directly to the ICM Portfolio Management Head of Portfolio Monitoring.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage Citi’s Wholesale Credit Risk portfolio monitoring responsibilities across a portfolio of business lines, industries, and geographies
  • Act as a point of contact with regulators and senior management
  • Develop innovative tools and other solutions to foster the identification, measurement, monitoring and control of new and potentially emerging risks in the global portfolio
  • Deliver actionable recommendations to senior management to drive risk mitigation and the sizing of risks relative to risk appetite, limits and stress loss
  • Collaborate with Early Warning Credit Management and Limits Management functions to create actionable intelligence and promote information sharing
  • Influence strategic business decisions thru the lens of appropriate portfolio risk management and compliance with applicable laws, rules, policies and regulations, including consideration for the firm's reputation and the safeguarding of Citi, its assets, stakeholders, and clients
  • Escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency to senior management
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to the ICM Portfolio Management team
  • Contribute to the development agenda of the ICM Portfolio Management organization

Job Qualifications

  • 12+ years of relevant experience across multiple industries, regions, and products
  • Experience in risk management with a comparably large, regulated financial institution
  • Experience with portfolio level performance monitoring analytics, insights, and diagnostics
  • Strong leadership skills and an understanding and appreciation for diverse backgrounds
  • Knowledge of operational and franchise risk
  • Ability to understand capital markets products, complex structures, trade, and transaction services
  • Able to serve as a point of escalation for key issues or time sensitive decisions
  • Acts decisively in high-risk scenarios, assessing a situation based on less than perfect information, experience, and judgment
  • Proven track record of building business relationships
  • Able to assess and make decisions weighing appropriate risk-return tradeoffs
  • Deep understanding of Citi global network and how to use the network effectively to grow client relationships
  • Breadth of knowledge across industries and geographies, as well as a deep knowledge of Citi's policies and processes and products

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience (with knowledge in engineering, mathematics, or statistics)
