Title: Project Engineer - Propulsion Systems


Location: GE Transportation (A Wabtec Company) – Kansas City, MO


Job Description:

The Project Engineer is responsible for the technical/engineering aspects of the assigned projects in terms of scope, timely delivery, quality, and compliance. The Project Engineer will interface with Wabtec and local suppliers to execute assigned Propulsion/Mechanical projects by adhering to Wabtec processes and procedures. The candidate should have a solid engineering background and proven experience with leading various manufacturing and assembly projects. Additional experience with repair development and/or advance process development a plus.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Scope projects and contribute to the down selection of projects that are both technically feasible and beneficial to the business.
  • Lead or provide engineering support to the development of a technically feasible process to repair or extend the life of a component.
  • Support the customer processes:
  • Prove Out Repair
  • Establish Supplier
  • Implement Repair into Production
  • Actualize Savings
  • Monitor process compliance on the shop floor and coordinate corrective action.
  • Attends/leads customer meetings (kick off, toll gates and final close out etc.).
  • Supports the advanced design and development of mechanical components.
  • Ensures high reliability and compliance with design/quality specifications by using mechanical creativity and engineering experience.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership abilities.
  • Knowledge of mechanical design and manufacturing processes.
  • Background involving mechanical testing and NDT inspection methods.
  • Experience with GD&T, general mfg. processes, tooling and Six Sigma.
  • Knowledge or experience working with commercially available FEA programs as well as 3D modeling (UG or Solid Works), a plus.


Qualifications/Requirements
:

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience.
