Prairie State Legal Services, Inc. is seeking a Recruitment and Onboarding Specialist to join our team in the Administrative office located in Rockford, Illinois. PSLS has 11 offices serving 36 counties throughout northern and central Illinois. It is the only legal aid organization in the majority of its service area providing services to the poor, elderly, and people with disabilities. Responsibilities

The Recruitment and Onboarding Specialist will participate in a full range of duties in a fast-paced environment including, but not limited to:

  • Develop, facilitate, and implement all phases of the recruitment process
  • Collaborate with hiring managers to identify and draft detailed and accurate job postings and hiring criteria
  • Identifies and implements efficient and effective recruiting methods and strategies based on the available role, industry standards, and the needs of the organization
  • Collaborate with marketing staff to promote career opportunities on PSLS website, social media, and other relevant venues, posts all jobs and maintain connections with career placement offices
  • Attend and participate in job fairs, recruiting sessions, and other networking opportunities
  • Screen candidates, select qualified and interested candidates for the interviewing phase, and then connect viable candidates with hiring managers
  • Counsel hiring managers on the interview and hiring process
  • Collaborate with the hiring manager and/or other human resource staff during the offer process, identifying and recommending salary ranges, start dates, and other pertinent details
  • Manage onboarding process and ensure all necessary documentation is obtained in a timely manner and stored properly
  • Serve as initial point of contact for new hires to assist in fostering a positive attitude toward the organization
  • Assist training staff in preparing and setting up for new employee orientations
  • Maintain current knowledge and ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and company policies related to recruitment and hiring, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Act and affirmative action guidelines and laws, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act

Salary and Benefits

The Recruitment and Onboarding Specialist position is a full-time position at 37.5 hours per week. PSLS offers a salary competitive with similar organizations. Our salary scale starts at $42,000 for candidates who meet the minimum qualifications, and increases with each year of relevant experience. Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be highly organized, dependable, and self-motivated. Applicants should have:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent educationrequired. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in business or related field OR at least five years managing all phases of the recruitment and onboarding process preferred.
  • HR and/or talent acquisition credential a plus
  • Thorough understanding of recruiting methods and best practices, as well as applicable policies and federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with aptitude in conducting interviews
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as a team member
  • General office experience, non-profit and/or legal experience preferred
  • Some travel is necessary; valid driver’s license and/or reliable transportation is required
