Position Highlights
The Department of Surgery is seeking multiple Research Professionals to support the research functions in Dr. Liechty's lab. The successful candidates will have strong interpersonal skills, be well-organized, and be highly motivated. The candidate must be able to work independently as well as collaborate with others within the laboratory. The Research Professionals will work under the supervision of Kenneth W. Liechty, MD and Carlos Zgheib, PhD.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Participate in the initiation and/or completion of research projects;carry out research projects and develop research protocols.
  • Perform experiments as related to research project; Record results of experiments: Tabulate research data and keep a detailed, easy to understand laboratory notebook.
  • Trouble-shooting and problem-solving as related to the research project.
  • Interpret the experimental results.
  • Conduct literature searches.
  • Perform in-vitro and in-vivo experiments; Perform animal care related to research procedures.
  • Assist with animal surgeries and tissue collection.
  • Carry out cell culture and molecular biology techniques.
  • Prepare tissues, cell cultures, blood samples, etc. for testing.
  • Test, verify and analyze research data.
  • Maintain laboratory records and inventories.
  • Participate in weekly laboratory meetings. This will include presenting analyzed data and discussing future downstream experiments.
  • Be willing to learn relevant techniques from the PI and other lab personnel.
  • Wiling to perform all research compliance activities.
  • Perform other administrative duties as requested by PI.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Three (3) years of relevant work experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a lab.

  • Experience with animal surgery.
