POSITION: Restorative Practices Specialist
( At-Will and Grant Funded Position )
LOCATION: MacDonald Middle School
SALARY: $22.00 per hour and eligible benefits
WORK YEAR: 23/24 School Year
START DATE: August 21, 2023
REPORTS TO: Building Principal

GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the school Principal, and in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the East Lansing Public School District, the Restorative Practices Specialist is responsible for providing supportive services to staff and students regarding the facilitation of restorative practices. The Restorative Practices Specialist will focus on incoming justice referrals and outcomes.
DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:
- Provides training, modeling, consultation, coaching, & technical support to staff and students in facilitation of school-wide restorative practices, including Restorative Conferences, Restorative Conversations, Restorative Classroom Circles, Community Building Circles, Peer Circles, Entry/Re-Entry Circles, and Peacemaking Circles (Conflict Resolution).
- Responds to incoming Restorative Justice referrals to assess appropriate response.
- Conducts intake assessments for Restorative Conferences and Circles. Prepares participants, contacts parents/guardians to invite or inform, sends confirmation notices, facilitates the process, develops agreed-upon plan, and conducts follow-up.
- Facilitates, co-facilitates or supports Administration or Staff in all circles on campus including Teacher-Student or Parent-Teacher/Staff circles.
- Provides participants, families, and appropriate staff with agreement/outcome of the restorative process.
- Follows up on all restorative meetings to ensure agreements are upheld.
- Facilitates transitions to and from disciplinary removals.
- Works with the school Intervention team to collaborate and strengthen current practices.
- Maintains an activity log for the purpose of preparing a summary report at the end of each month.
- Maintains an active file on each student receiving restorative justice services to facilitate delivery of appropriate interventions.
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- 3 to 5 years of related work experience.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Two years of experience working in a school or youth program.
- A strong focus and experience in the development and maintenance of a healthy school climate.
- Experience developing and delivering training, facilitating, and coaching students and adults preferred.
- Knowledge of Restorative Practices preferred.
- Knowledge of Social Emotional Competencies.
