Anne Arundel Gastroenterology Associates is hiring a Staff Accountant at our practice located in Annapolis, Maryland.

About the Opportunity

This position is responsible for processing journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts, and oversight and understanding of the general ledger and how it impacts the company’s monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Record daily cash activity; maintain check registers and cash flow; report daily averages to management.
  • Assist in the month end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes, ensuring transactions are in accordance with GAAP and that internal policies and procedures are followed and communicate exceptions to management.
  • Responsible for various general ledger accounts including reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Analysis of variances in account activity.
  • Prepare GAAP financials including balance sheets and income statements.
  • Prepare financial analysis and respond to management inquiries.
  • Prepare schedules and respond to audit questions.
  • Assist in preparation of presentation of financials to management on a monthly basis.
  • Cash management – manage cash on a daily/weekly basis to determine cash requirements.
  • This position assists with some Accounts Payable duties and prepares two small payrolls biweekly into the payroll system.
  • Other duties/tasks/projects as assigned.

About the Candidate

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Accounting/Finance from four-year College or University and
  • 1-3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Healthcare industry experience a plus.
  • Experience with Month-end Close is a plus.
  • CPA certification is plus.
  • Strong customer focus, accuracy and analytical skills are key.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Superior communication skills.
  • Proficiency MS office programs (Word and Excel) and Outlook email.
  • Experience with Great Plains and Netsuite software is helpful but not required.
