The Lynchburg District has an exciting career opportunity in our Halifax Residency Office which covers a two-county area (Halifax and Pittsylvania Counties).

This position will assist the Resident Engineer to ensure the coordination, integration and management of VDOT resources and staff impacting a residency transportation program, which includes routine and emergency roadway maintenance and safety operations. The position will serve as the focal point for services and primary contact/liaison for local governments on activities impacting the local geographic region.

Minimum Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of federal and state rules, regulations, and policies as they relate to transportation. Considerable knowledge of roadway construction and maintenance operations, equipment, materials and techniques. Knowledge of financial and human resources management principles and practices. Skill in maintaining effective relationships and building teams. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. Skill in the use of computers and software applications. Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience leading and supervising others. Experience in budget development and administration using automated financial software systems. Experience in the management of transportation programs and projects of varying complexity. Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Public Administration, or related field preferred; equivalent experience or training may substitute for degree.
