Position Focus:

Yale School of Nursing (YSN) is seeking an Associate Director of Student Success to join a dynamic and growing Office of Student Life. YSN, located on the beautiful and sprawling grounds of Yale West Campus, is conveniently located near major highways. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Student Life, the Associate Director would be an integral part of the team, providing direct student services to all YSN students from acceptance through graduation. The Associate Director develops and implements programs and practices that fosters holistic student learning and development through the advancement of high-impact educational and career-development programs. This position assists a diverse population of students with advising, academic planning, and achieving their professional goals while ensuring students are meeting academic program requirements. This position also develops, coordinates, and implements programs/services that help support students' academic achievement, development, and retention. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for collecting and analyzing data and providing recommendations for student success. Serves as an advocate and referral source for students; educates students on policies and procedures, plans and coordinates activities related to new student orientation and other initiatives that contribute to student success. Works closely with faculty advisors and school leadership. Oversees student accommodations and serves as liaison with Yale’s Student Accessibility Services Office. Creates and shares student success tips to retain and engage with students. Supervise Student Life staff. Essential Duties Contribute to integrated unit support for students with specific needs. Serve as a liaison to the faculty across all specialties and degree programs. Research and incorporate national trends and data-supported practices that foster student success and wellbeing, including the retention and success of historically underserved student populations; in collaboration with YSN’s Director of Institutional Research, maintain and analyze current databases, collect new data through surveys and other means as required to assess areas of need, determine programmatic effectiveness, and evaluate student outcomes. Oversees student accommodations and serves as liaison with Yale’s Student Accessibility Services Office; works collaboratively with faculty and staff across all YSN programs to ensure that accommodations processes and policies are effectively designed and implemented. Coordinate and deliver comprehensive career services for YSN students; provides career counseling, mock interviews, resume advisement, and application assistance; design and deliver workshops, networking events and other education opportunities that meet student career needs. Assess learning and development outcomes, determine program evaluation results; and modify programs accordingly. Serves as a liaison to YSN Alumni Association and the Yale Office of International Students and Scholars. Contribute to unit strategic planning, policy development, program implementation, marketing and communications activity, personnel, infrastructure, and budget matters. Assist with the coordination and execution of orientation, commencement and student organization programming. Ensures continuity of student success policies, procedures and programming between residential and online degree programs. Manages YSN Student Life Ambassadors, Peer Counselors, and Orientation Leaders.

Essential Duties

1. Plans, coordinates and implements programs for a particular school or college in one or more of the following areas: financial aid, career services, and/or admissions. 2. Recommends short- and long-term administrative and department goals. 3. Determines student eligibility in one or more of the following areas: federal loan programs, school grants, job placement opportunities, and/or admissions. 4. Provides guidance, advice and counseling in one or more of the following areas: academic, admissions, career, and financial matters for students, faculty and prospective students. 5. Initiates, designs and implements operational systems to maintain and monitors student records and/or applicant records. 6. Reviews and approves all written material for publication or press release. 7. Organizes workshops and on and off campus recruitment events in one or more of the following areas: career services, admissions, and/or financial aid. 8. Supervises day to day operation of services; determines priorities and maintain workflow. 9. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field and four years of experience in a related area or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Ability to work with a diverse population of students who have wide-ranging academic needs and interests. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to handle confidential information and follow FERPA guidelines.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Demonstrated problem-solving skills and independent judgment; ability to perform assigned duties with minimal supervision. Strong time management and organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to take initiative, work independently and in a team environment, and complete tasks in a timely manner.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Demonstrated ability to be creative and innovative. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). Ability to learn new and emerging technologies. Ability to collect, analyze and report data; provides input based on findings.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Demonstrated ability to prepare/deliver professional presentations.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Ability to travel to meetings/events on and off-campus; work a flexible schedule as needed.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Degree in Nursing and experience working as an APRN or Midwife. Experience in student services, experience in employer relations and student advising. Knowledge of University advising policies and procedures. Familiarity with advising databases and automated student information systems, such as Banner. Basic knowledge of retention data management and statistics.
