About METCO, Inc.

Founded in 1966, METCO is the largest voluntary school desegregation program in the country. It is the commonwealth’s only program designed to address the long standing racial and economic segregation in our public schools. METCO is a critical asset in our collective effort to close the achievement gap in Mass. Following the passage of the Racial Imbalance Act in 1966, the METCO program provides the opportunity for children from racially segregated schools in Boston and children from isolated suburban schools to learn together in an integrated public school setting.

Position Overview: Assist teacher with the delivery of academic instruction, academic standards, and curricula to support in all aspects of the summer school program.

Work closely with teacher to:

  • Assist in the delivery of academic instruction to students with focus on preventing summer learning loss in ELA and/or math
  • Support in the development of student socio-emotional skills and increase student efficacy by building skills and competencies
  • Collaborate with teacher in strengthening the relationships of the school-community

Duties:

  • Be available for paid staff trainings from Jul 5, 2023 through Jul 7, 2023
  • Fulfillment of all daily duties are required during weeks 1-4 (July10-August 4, 2023) of summer school instruction
  • Attend mandatory pre- summer school orientation (onboarding), training sessions, classroom set up and breakdown.
  • Attend, supervise, and chaperone all field trips
  • Provide supervision for all student lunch and recess periods
  • Support teachers with organizing classroom space to be conducive to student learning (i.e., ensuring students are in a quiet space with minimal distractions, etc.)
  • Support teacher in the promotion of student health and wellness
  • Participate in all mandatory staff meetings.
  • Assist teacher with completion of post assessments for each student
  • Assist teachers with compiling inventory of curriculum materials after conclusion of programming.
  • Support staff with enrichment activities
  • Participate in mandatory feedback interviews with evaluators.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must be between the age of 19-24
  • Must be a Boston resident
  • Must be authorized to work in the USA.
  • Ability to work well with students
  • General knowledge, use of general office equipment, and technology (computer) to enhance student learning.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Patient and calm demeanor with students and others
  • Basic academic skills

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to walk, stand, sit for extended periods of time
  • Duties may be performed outdoors and indoors ; some heavy lifting may be necessary

Pay: $17/ hr with a max of 25 hours per week
