Job Summary

Using specialized knowledge and skills obtained through education and experience to provide strategic communications planning, messaging and execution, in an effort to increase the awareness of corporate vision, business strategies and initiatives among the firm’s internal and external audiences. Leads large or multiple projects with significant scope and impact. Works independently on difficult assignments that are broad in nature requiring originality and ingenuity with appreciable latitude for independent direction and activities. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships at all levels of the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Translates business strategy into work programs, processes and actions.
  • Serves as communications workstream lead for firm initiatives, corporate development integrations, and issue and crisis management activities.
  • Acts as cross-functional communications liaison to identify co-dependencies, gaps and opportunities across communications disciplines.
  • Cultivates and manages relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Serves as a liaison to leadership and external audiences.
  • Provides enterprise-level message development, delivery and monitoring.
  • Ensures message consistency across internal, external and executive communications, and stakeholder groups.
  • Effectively interacts with firm’s senior management team, risk management functions and business partners.
  • May represent the Marketing department and/or company at internal and external events.
  • Sets clear objectives that align with department and corporate strategy.
  • May manage department resource needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Knowledge of

  • Advanced principles of the financial services industry in order to support communication needs at all levels.
  • Advanced concepts, practices, procedures and technology of communications.
  • Stakeholder preferences, priorities and dependencies.
  • The broad landscape of internal and external communications channels to optimize potential and appropriate interactions with stakeholders.
  • Issues and media impacting the financial services industry.

Skill in

  • Managing time sufficient to handle multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines and changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Developing strategy including identifying objectives, defining requirements and developing a structure for accomplishing objectives successfully.
  • Thinking quickly and creatively, overcoming objection, and reacting well to deadline pressure.
  • Advanced writing and public speaking.
  • Leveraging metrics to achieve objectives.

Ability to

  • Promote the department’s services.
  • Operate standard office equipment and using required software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint sufficient to create documents, spreadsheets, e-mails and presentations.
  • Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Support associate development through project counsel and coaching.
  • Independently solve problems and develop innovative solutions.
  • Work collaboratively and productively with all levels of management.
  • Remain current on issues and regulation that impact the company and financial services industry.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Respond to urgent requests or workflow outside of business hours when necessary.
  • Provide a high level of service.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with individuals at all organizational levels.

Education/Previous Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) in Communications, Marketing, Business Management or a related field with a minimum of (6) six years of experience in the media relations or related activities such as journalism, broadcast media and/or a public relations agency. Proven story placements required.

OR ~

  • Any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training approved by Human Resources.
