Position Title: Career & Tech Education (CTE) - Family & Consumer Science Teacher, High School

Reports To: CTE Director, Building Principals

Classification: Certificated Teacher Position, FLSA Exempt

Representation: Union representation available by the Wahluke Education Association (WEA)

SUMMARY:
Provide teaching and learning related to the Family & Consumer Sciences CTE career cluster. The actual assignment will vary based on the needs of the school's schedule. The successful candidate will benefit from having endorsements in the listed areas below. Provide instruction using different modes including, but not limited, to on-site and remote. Integrate English Learner strategies. Perform all assigned duties and responsibilities consistent with state regulations, district policies and procedures and building practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Valid Washington State Teacher Certificate preferred.
  • Valid Washington State CTE Teacher Certificate or ability to complete CTE certification within two years of hire.
  • Willingness to obtain a Plan I (University Route) or Plan II (Industry Route) CTE Certificate. Washington State offers two routes to obtain certification to teacher CTE Courses.   • 6000 hours work experience in Hospitality & Tourism or Family & Consumer Science related field.
  • Minimum 3 years successful experience in Culinary Arts, Family & Consumer Science (FCS) or a related industry , or teaching standard FCS-related courses.
  • Endorsement, training, experience in English Language Learner instructional strategies helpful; EL Achieve (Constructed Meaning), SIOP, GLAD preferred
  • Understanding/Knowledge of 5D CEL Instructional Frameworks helpful and willingness and ability to incorporate Teacher Performance Evaluation Plan dimensions in daily teaching practices.
  • Knowledge of/training in, or willingness to commit to learning Safe & Civil Schools, PBIS, AVID, and /or Character Strong, Constructive Meaning and other initiatives or programs as determined by building or district programs preferred.
  • Proficient using technology and real world applications to enhance teaching and learning; Google classroom, Zoom, Social Media, etc.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to work closely with Wahluke administration and staff towards school culture, equitable grading, project-based learning, engagement, and collaboration projects.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Type II Drivers Certification.
  • Ability to obtain and annually maintain First Aid and CPR/AED certification and Food Handler permit.
  • Experience working and supervising students in a classroom setting.
  • Ability to develop and promote rigorous Career and Technical Education programs.
  • Desire to work with high school freshmen through senior level students in developing their knowledge and skill to be employed in FCS-related field or to continue to post-secondary education/training.
  • Evidence of thorough knowledge and skills needed to teach Culinary Arts/Family & consumer Science career cluster.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for teaching high school students at Wahluke School District.
  • Responsible for participating in the development of curriculum process with an emphasis on integrated curriculum and alignment of course competencies with the essential academic learning requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Jr High School to develop and implement a vertical pathway plan.
  • Work with post-secondary institutions to develop articulation agreements.
  • Identify and support the attainment of valid, relevant Industry Recognized Credentials appropriate to FCS and related career clusters and industries. (STARS, 1st Aid/CPR, SafeServ, Food Worker Permit, ACFEF, etc)
  • Incorporate new and emerging technology into the instructional process.
  • Ability to build and foster partnerships within the community.
  • Attend all advisory committee meetings; minimum 3 year in the ESD 105 region.
  • Support the progress and completion of the student's High School and Beyond Plan
  • Develop relationships with area business and industry for membership in either the Wahluke or the South-Central Advisory committee.
  • Support student Work-Based Learning opportunities as possible.
  • Ability to be a “team” player by establishing and maintaining cooperative professional relationships.
  • Attend and participate in CTE Professional Learning Communities (PLC) and other related PLC's to improve student learning outcomes as defined by the principals or district.
  • Support and attend CTE activities such as but not limited to: after school Parent Night, CTE Month, Migrant Parent Advisory committee, recruitment/registration nights, etc.
  • Collaborate with relevant departments to develop equivalency competencies within the program.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and colleagues by phone calls, parent meetings, emails, home visits, Parent Square, other relevant modes of communication, etc.
  • Ability and willingness to be innovative and committed to the challenge of change in education
  • Assist in ongoing professional development to maintain a current working knowledge relevant to their field and profession.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
