Description

If this sounds like you, then you might be the ideal candidate for the Human Resource Specialist III position open at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center. The ideal candidate will work within a team-centered environment to meet our commitment to serving Kentucky's Veterans by fostering independence, preserving dignity, and providing compassionate care.

Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Provides technical assistance related to health insurance, life insurance, retirement, and workers compensation.
  • Works as the facility coordinator for workers compensation interpreting and applying policy, rules, and procedures, prepares documents and logs regarding workers compensation and occupational safety and health administration. Processes workers compensation buy backs.
  • Audits and corrects time and attendance and executes payroll for 370+ employees utilizing Kentucky Human Resource Information System and Kronos. Maintains timesheet files.
  • Sets up and processes all direct deposit and benefits information.
  • Responds to employees’ verifications inquiries; prepares documents relating to court ordered garnishments.
  • Coordinates education and training programs as well as special projects such as wellness events, deferred comp, etc.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrate efficient organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office Programs.
  • Problem solving and critical thinking skills.
This job requires mandatory COVID 19 vaccination or an approved exemption in accordance with CMS-3415-IFC from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. This means if appointed to the position, the applicant must have completed the primary vaccination series for COVID-19, which means the administration of a single-dose vaccine or the administration of all required doses of a multi-dose vaccine upon commencement of employment. The vaccine received must be one of the FDA-approved or FDA-authorized vaccines. Proof of vaccination will be required. If a medical or religious exemption is sought, the candidate must submit paperwork to the employer prior to appointment for review and approval.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Two years of professional experience in personnel administration.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Administrative, business, research, and/or clerical experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required college on a year for year basis. Prior military experience will only substitute if the individual received an honorable discharge, discharge under honorable conditions, or a general discharge.

Working Conditions
Incumbents working in this job title perform duties in an office setting. Occasional travel may be required.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
