Then, our K/1 Instructional Special Education teacher position may be for you!
Heather Hill Elementary School is seeking a positive, energetic individual to join their staff as a K/1 Instructional Special Education teacher starting in August 2023! In this position, you will implement the instructional and behavioral components of the individual education program for individual students and establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members. Additionally, you will work collectively with the paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom and/or students. Currently, there is approximately a 2:1 student to adult ratio in the classroom.
To be successful in this position, one would create a classroom environment conducive to young learners, work together with a team to individualize student instruction when needed, prepare and deliver effective instruction, accommodate each student to meet him/her at his/her level, work with all the grade level team, and be flexible and adaptable to change. Additionally, a successful candidate is able to work with and analyze data to support students and has patience and kindness to work with our students that need high levels of support.
Heather Hill is a K-5 school located in Flossmoor, near Flossmoor Road and Kedzie Avenue. We are a neighborhood school surrounded by green space that are active places of play outside of the school day. The school is a vibrant part of the neighborhood and community. Heather Hill is the smallest elementary school in Flossmoor School District 161 with approximately 280 students and 40 staff members. In addition to the core curriculum, our students receive weekly instruction in Art, Music, Physical Education, and STEAM. We are able to offer a wide range of additional supports for our learners' needs. Through our special education resource teachers, reading specialists, English learners teachers, enrichment (ACE) program for our high level learners, and our classroom staff, we are able to deliver instruction to meet each learner's specific needs. Heather Hill serves students from portions of Flossmoor, Homewood, and Olympia Fields.
To be qualified for the position, you will need a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Education and either have taught Special Education Instructional – K-5 in the last ten (10) years or have taken coursework, seminars or workshops relevant to Special Education Instructional – K-5 education in the last two (2) years. Additionally, a valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Learning Behavior Specialist I (LBS 1) for the grade level(s) endorsement is required. If you have an out-of-state certification, we will help you with obtaining an Illinois license!

Pay: $42,385.68 - $60,891.79 per year
