Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Manager General Manufacturing 1
to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Operations organization. This leader will lead our IPT - E Assembly Team supporting our A-shift (Monday - Thursday, day shift, 10 hour shifts).

The Manager General Manufacturing 1 is responsible ownership of a piece of the production business and for the down and in management philosophy for the daily business execution. This position processes daily tasks in a manufacturing environment. This leader provides direction to the area leads and employees utilizing management guidelines and general policies. Overall responsibilities include: driving employee efficiency, meeting product cost and schedule targets, managing the area to produce quality products, and engaging employees to achieve their highest potential.

This leader is responsible for the direct supervision of approximately 10-15 directly reporting employees executing in a manufacturing environment.

This leader is expected to work independently across organizations; manage the use of consumables to achieve budget targets; assign and manage Operator and/or Test technicians to maximize efficiency and achieve target productive yields; implement our process improvements to improve affordability, quality, and schedule; and perform required SAP/MES transactions to manage Operator and/or Test Technicians.

Responsibilities include:

  • Executing day-to-day operations of a group of employees who generally perform a single task or multiple, but closely related tasks
  • Ensuring tools, plans, people, and material are available to complete assigned workloads
  • Daily tie-in with production management for workload, priority, and the supervision of assigned personnel
  • Advising staff in the completion of daily production operations goals, track, and report performance
  • Responsibility for training and development of subordinate staff, estimating staffing needs, assigning work, meeting completion dates, and ensuring consistent application of organizational policies
  • Participation in continuous improvement activities
  • Responsibility for performance management and corrective action
  • Delegating corrective action on safety & quality incidents
  • Responsibility for building evacuations and directing emergency events
  • Directs and coordinates the activities to plan, prepare, issue, and control production schedules, in conjunction with Material Requirements Planning, to meet production/delivery requirements
  • Oversees the status of work in process, material availability, and potential production problems to ensure that equipment, materials, and services are available, as needed
  • Assigns and manage staff to maximize efficiency and achieve schedule and target productive yields
  • Performs require SAP/MES transactions to manage personnel, planning and financials
  • Provides specific direction and training, as required
  • Ensures 5S practices within work cells/areas
  • Utilizes both internal and external resources, and coordinates cell and functional activities with quality assurance, manufacturing, supply chain, engineering, inventory control, transportation, etc
  • Delegating corrective action on safety & quality incidents
  • Responsibility for building evacuations and directing emergency events

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED
  • A minimum of 4 years of related experience in a manufacturing, production, engineering environments
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, technical specifications, and operating procedures
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance and special program access
  • At least one year of leadership experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math), Supply Chain or Business
  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance
  • Experience with ISO, LEAN, and problem-solving methodologies
  • 8 or more years of manufacturing experience
  • Demonstrated use of manufacturing performance measurement tools
  • Demonstrated use of production control tools (e.g., schedule, MRP, workforce forecasts)
  • Experience in an increasing rate manufacturing environment
  • Aerospace assembly and/or composites experience preferred
  • Experience in implementing continuous improvement
  • Successful history of leading high energy assignments in a large plant, promoting a safe and productive climate preferred Understanding of root cause analysis
  • Understanding MSDS Information
  • Understanding of process and equipment capability
  • Understanding cost effective methods of manufacturing

Salary Range: $79,900 USD - $119,900 USD


Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
