Get to know the Role
We are looking for a Patent Paralegal to support the development and management of Grab's patent portfolio. This role has been created to strengthen Grab's IP management capacity. The Patent Paralegal will work closely with Grab's in-house patent counsels, inventors, and external counsel to file and prosecute patent applications. By joining our team, you will have the opportunity to work on a range of patent matters across different jurisdictions, and to help develop Grab's internal patent processes.
The Day-to-Day Activities:

  • Coordinate patent prosecution work with external counsel, including fee quote enquiries, preparation of filing instructions, managing incoming correspondence, recordals and renewals.

  • Assist in preparation of formality documents (assignments, POAs, affidavits) for IP prosecution and procure signatures from internal and external stakeholders.

  • Create and maintain records in IP Management system (Foundation IP), including entry and monitoring of deadlines, maintenance of inventor records, and storage and docketing of email correspondence and documents.

  • Maintain a log of granted patents including docketing of physical documents (e.g. printed patent certificates).

  • Work with in-house patent counsels to manage patent prosecution in Singapore.

  • Billings, Budgeting and Expenses Monitoring, including checking and approving invoices received from external counsels, assisting with creation and management of purchase orders (POs) for external counsel invoices, assisting in preparation of patents budget, and working with patents team and finance team to monitor legal expenses and budget projections.

The Must-Haves:

  • At least 2 years experience in patent prosecution matters at a law firm and/or within an in-house legal team

  • Strong internet digital skills tech-savvy is a must

  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or equivalent (e.g. Google suite)

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Good coordination, organizational and time management skills

The Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience with global patent filing and prosecution (including filing of PCT and national phase applications) will be highly regarded.
