General Purpose of Job:
Performs a variety of tasks directed at the prevention, assessment, treatment and physical rehabilitation of injuries to athletes as well as service and programs for members.
Essential Duties:
This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
- Consistently exemplifies “on-stage” behavior.
- Is responsible for creating a destination, experience-based service, delivers customized experience using patient’s profiles.
- Designs individualized exercise programs for members based upon the individual’s fitness goals, age, and physical abilities/limitations; instruct members in safe and effective usage of cardiovascular and strength equipment.
- Monitors exercise activities of members and usage of Wellness equipment; offers positive feedback and provides assistance regarding correct technique, posture, intensity, and duration to assure member attainment of fitness goals and prevent potential injury.
- Performs Fitness Assessments, Program appointments and actively promotes and provides Personal Training services.
- Works in cooperation with MOVE coordinator to develop, promote and provide MOVE programs and services.
- Assists members/guests/clients with completion of required paperwork; ensures accuracy and completeness of information.
- Assumes responsibility for maintaining a clean and functional facility; cleans/maintains equipment, restocks supplies and towels, and notifies appropriate personnel/equipment vendor of unsafe conditions and/or equipment in need of repair.
- Writes health/fitness/health articles for publication or internal/external posting.
- Works with the school system to assesses the athlete’s level of functioning and progress including range of motion measurements; recommends changes to the treatment plan of care and/or discharge as appropriate.
- Trains athletes in correct ambulation, therapeutic exercises and correct usage of exercise equipment.
- Schedules patient/athlete’s treatments/appointments.
- Documents athlete’s treatments, initial evaluation, progress notes and discharge summaries in a timely manner and in accordance with Hospital and/or school policies and insurance requirements.
- Instructs athletes and their families on various therapeutic procedures and home exercises.
- Implements exercise programs and renders rehabilitative treatment to patients under the direction of a Physical Therapist.
- Maintains communication with the physical therapist, physician, and other health care professionals to facilitate quality patient care; reports abnormal physiological changes.
- Refers patient to other hospital services when appropriate.
- Prepares bills for services provided.
- Maintains therapy equipment and treatment areas; order supplies as needed.
- Performs appropriate ATC duties, Physical Therapy Assistant duties and Wellness Instructor duties as directed.
- Attends staff meetings and in-service programs as required.
- Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, values, and customer service initiatives. Adheres to the organization’s policies & procedures, and compliance guidelines.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
General Requirements
• Board Certification from the National Athletic Trainer’s Association • Completion of CEU’s to maintain certification • CPR/BCLS • Valid Michigan Driver’s License • Proof of Current Automobile Insurance
Work Experience
• Knowledge of athletic training and therapeutic exercising techniques • Knowledge of risk management and injury prevention • Written and computer skills necessary to prepare required documentation • Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate, orally and in written form, with athletes, families, physicians, and health care professionals in the exchange of information. Presents self in a warm, professional and caring manner. • Demonstrates professional appearance • Analytical ability to assess athlete’s progress and recommend appropriate changes to the plan of care • Mental ability to adapt and respond to multiple priorities and demands, deal with the concerns of athletes and their families, and handle pressures related to emergency situations • Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology, Sports Medicine or a related field
