About The East Carolina Heart Institute at ECU Health Medical Center

East Carolina Heart Institute at ECU Health Medical Center is the region's preferred facility for cardiovascular care. The six-story tower houses clinical space, diagnostic services and cardiovascular operating rooms, including a hybrid operating room. It features 120 beds for patients undergoing procedures for cardiac medicine, cardiac surgery and vascular surgery.

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma in Nursing, Associates in Nursing or higher
  • 2 - 4 years experience is required.
  • Current NC RN license or licensure to practice in a participating Nurse Licensure Compact state Health Care Provider is required.
  • Basic Life Support is required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support, National Stroke Scale Certification is required for personnel in the SP II (RN) position. Pediatric Advanced Life Support required for Emergency Department qualified personnel in the SP II (RN ) position.

Other Information

  • Department: Cardiovascular Intermediate Unit (CVIU) - this position is PRN (SP II) with specific guidelines.
    • Required to work a minimum of 48 hours (including two weekend shifts) per 6 week schedule.
    • Required to work two hospital approved holidays per calendar year.
    • Eligible for incentives.
  • 24 monitored flex beds (intermediate and general beds) in a decentralized nursing pod design.
  • The CVIU patient population primarily consists of post-operative cardiac, thoracic and vascular patients with a 1:4 to 1:5 ratio depending on the acuity of the patients.
