Job Overview:
Scientist II position supporting the research, design, and development of lens care products to drive future technologies. A laboratory based position within the R&D Formulation team at the Rochester, NY site. This position will focus on the preparation and characterization of new solution prototypes and marketed product support.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
Prepare aqueous solution prototypes evaluating buffer systems, novel polymers, surfactants, antioxidants, and disinfectants
Perform physical and wet chemistry techniques (pH, osmolality, surface tension, viscosity, and turbidity)
Perform measurement of contact lens dimensions with optical comparator
Collaborate with formulation team members to plan and perform laboratory work
Represent formulation group as core team member on product development teams
Conduct chromatographic analysis by HPLC as needed
Execute planned experiments independently
Contribute to patents, scientific literature, and marketing support documentation
Maintain proper laboratory notebook and a clean, safe laboratory environment
Qualifications and Experience:
B.S. in chemistry or related biological science discipline will be considered.
Minimum of three years of laboratory experience
Strong HPLC operation and maintenance knowledge
Experience with Waters Empower software preferred
Strong data management skills and working knowledge of MS Office product (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Experience with Global Document Management Systems preferred
Strong interpersonal skills to work in a team environment
