The Town of Scarborough’s Community Services Department is seeking seasonal Parks Maintenance Workers. These are seasonal, up to 40-hour per week positions which involve semi-skilled manual labor performing various tasks and operating equipment used in the maintenance of recreational fields and town parks, and in the general repair of buildings and equipment.

The Town’s Parks Maintenance team mows and trims all municipal and school athletic facilities, prepares athletic fields for use by chalking and painting appropriate lines, keeps all fields and grounds litter free, dumps and transports all trash from beaches, parks, cemeteries, and boat launches. Parks Maintenance employees clean public restrooms and may perform general building maintenance and repair.

Position Requirements: Must be at least 16 years old. Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a variety of equipment used in the mowing and upkeep of athletic fields and municipal grounds, as well as traffic laws, ordinances, and rules involved in the operation of automotive vehicles. Ability to operate trucks and lighter motorized equipment safely and according to laws and regulations. Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments and service automotive equipment. Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time under adverse climatic conditions with the capacity of physical strength and agility sufficient to perform all assignments of the job classification. Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays, as required. Must possess a valid Maine driver’s license and have demonstrated a good driving record. Must be able to work in a team environment. Willing to train the right candidates.

Desirable Experience: Graduation from an accredited high school or GED program. Considerable experience with trucks and construction equipment. Extensive experience in the lining of fields and proper maintenance of irrigation systems. In lieu of the above, any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills may be considered at the discretion of the Town of Scarborough.
