Senior Database Developer/ Performance Engineer
THE ROLE:
AMD Datacenter Engineering and Application Engineering team is looking for a Senior Database Developer/ Performance Engineer to work on AMD Datacenter SQL Server performance analysis and tuning. This opportunity is part of that team that works internally and externally with AMD CPU core design teams, AMD Server Performance teams, and Microsoft SQL Server Performance Engineers.
THE PERSON:
We are looking for a highly motivated professional with advanced database architectural, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills who is interested in a full time position in a senior-level capacity.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, and optimize large, complex DB schemas, SQL scripts and objects to meet application functionality and performance requirements.
- Working cohesively with stakeholders including data, design, product, and executive teams and assisting them with data-related technical issues.
- Be the SQL expert across organization recommend, and advocate software optimizations to Microsoft SQL Server and OS teams.
- Working closely with application developers and business teams at all levels to assist with data-related technical issues and help ensure the successful designing and delivering data driven solutions.
- Provide solutions to promote data integrity in enterprise systems.
- Collaborate with Developers to improve applications and establish best practices.
- Publish documentation and collaborative information using internal tools.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Expertise in Database Architecture and TPC-H & E Benchmarks.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills. This job involves analyzing multi generations of CPU’s and SQL Server database releases to develop effective data driven solutions in both hardware and software.

- Demonstrate expertise in performance tuning including both query and server optimization utilizing SQL tools and/or 3rd party solutions.
- Strong knowledge and experience in data modeling, database design, optimization for performance, SQL, stored procedures.
- Hands-on development experience in SQL Server 2016 & Above.
- Hands-on experiences in Windows Server, and Linux OS on Baremetal and HyperV or KVM Virtual environments.
- Hands-on with new CPU’s and servers. This job requires desire and ability to dive into new hardware and make physical changes to systems in a lab or datacenter environment.
- Experience in troubleshooting and resolving data related issues.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Expertise in performance tuning especially tuning complex queries, procedure, and indexing strategies.
- Performance tuning experience using 3rd party tools.
- Experience using JIRA and Confluence as part of development life cycle.
- 8 years + relational database and SQL experience
- 8 Years + Windows Server OS environments.
- TPC Benchmark experience TPC-H, E, & C.
- Creativity, curiosity, initiative, and self-management are key attributes candidate embodies.
- Solid experience (4 years +) in coding complex SQL queries and stored procedures. The ability to explain the details of performance tuning internals of the database.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- BS or equivalent in engineering or related technical area
