All professional activities will be provided under the supervision of the CFY Clinical Supervisor as outlined by the State of Hawaii Speech Pathology and Audiology Licensing Board and the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Administers diagnostic tests and provides individualized treatment to patients with a variety of communication disorders, voice and swallowing impairment and neurological defects.
- Advises physicians of test results and subsequently recommends and implements appropriate treatments.
- Monitors status of results and collaborates with physicians when altering treatment program.
- Performs diagnostic clinical swallowing evaluations on a diversified patient population, with a wide variety of neurologic and medical diagnosis and surgical histories.
- Performs diagnostic voice evaluations on a diversified patient population.
- Administers and analyzes test results to determine patients communicative abilities; examines patients medical history, neurological ad psychological test.
- Interpret and report the results of evaluations/tests to referring physicians, therapists and other medical staff.
- Provides recommendations regarding the need for further evaluation or services in the area of speech and pathology when appropriate.
- Participates in the design and implementation of therapy programs addressing speech/language voice and swallowing problems for a diversified patient population.
- Treats speech and language impairments such as functional articulatory disorders, stuttering, voice problems, delayed speech and organic disorder including cleft palate, cerebral palsy, aphasia and impaired hearing.
- Provides ongoing evaluation of the plan of care and patient progress, and adjusts program to improve effectiveness.
- Provides education and input regarding the findings and the treatment plan to the patient, family or other care providers; provides guidance and counseling.
- Provides accurate and timely documentation that meet department policies and third party requirements.
- Develops and presents in service programs in area of specialty.
- Upholds Maui Healths Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities, and applicable state, federal and local laws.
- Participates in development of department policies, protocols and treatment programs as appropriate.
- Keeps abreast of developments in the field of speech therapy by attending professional seminars and workshops.
- Maui Memorial, Kula Hospital and Lanai Hospital coverage as needed.
- The ASHA CF experience is a minimum of 1,260 hours and a minimum of 36 weeks of full-time experience or its part-time equivalent. Most applicants will complete this experience in one location with one mentor in a full-time setting. Part-time experiences will require additional weeks to reach the minimum required 1,260 hours.

Additional Requirements:
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge and to utilize theories, principles, practices, techniques and methods of Speech Therapy.
- Consistently demonstrates the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to each other, to our members, and to customers, contracted providers, and vendors.
- Will be required to apply for a provisional license upon hired into the position.
