Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Sr Controls / Mine Support Specialist is responsible for all communications and monitoring systems at the mine site. This includes advancement and recovery of equipment and systems as well as maintaining an approved budget for same.

Special Skills or Qualifications:

• Experience in Information Technology and networking.
• Experience in automation controls and graphics.
• Have knowledge of the following systems:
  • Conspec mine monitor system
  • MST tracking system
  • Loud Mouth page phone system
  • Matrix IntelliZone proximity detection system
• MSHA Electrical card, is preferred.
• Two-year college technical degree preferred.
• Have strong computer skills. Experience with Windows applications, including Microsoft Excel or equivalent spreadsheet is required.

Additional Expectations:

• Must have knowledge of regulations of underground plans and monitoring requirements set forth by MSHA.
• Must become familiar with all aspects of the mine Emergency Response Plan.
• Must possess a SAFETY-FIRST attitude.

• Must possess good verbal and written skills and be able to communicate clearly and effectively with all site personnel.
• Must have good typing skills and the ability to apply computer skills to acquire knowledge of Company’s computer system.
• Must be able to keep and maintain accurate records.
• Must be able to work with little or no supervision.
• Must maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Must be willing to work extended and/or rotating shifts, weekends and holidays.
• Must possess a high-school diploma or GED.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements, Underground Occupations:

• Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time on uneven, rocky surfaces.
• Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles.
• Must have the ability to walk for up to 4 hours at a time. Will be required to walk through different sections of the mine with varying degrees of clearance and headroom.
• Walking ability will be judged according to SCSR emergency evacuation plan required and approved by MSHA.
• Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA.
• Must have the ability to bend or stoop for a full work period as a result of mine height.
• Must have the ability to climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on and off equipment and ladders.
• Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms and legs as well as good hand to eye coordination.
• Must have the ability to lift 40 to 60 pounds on a frequent basis and the ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to 80 pounds.
• Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.
