What will you do?
We are looking for a driven and experienced professional to fulfil the role of Director, Waste Management, to grow our business in Malaysia and across Asia-Pacific. The successful candidate will be working in a global consultancy, working closely with our multidisciplinary team of consultants in Malaysia and across the ERE/Aurecon network in 9 countries. Here are the key things you will do to ‘bring ideas to life’
  • Grow the waste management business by identifying and pursuing business opportunities with existing and new clients.
  • Develop the waste management go-to-market plan and lead the execution of such plan working closely with the various market leaders across the ERE/Aurecon network.
  • Achieve mutually agreed sale and revenue targets.
  • Act as a technical advisor/leader for waste management consultancy projects for clients across a variety of sectors, focusing on integrated waste management, waste reduction and minimization, waste recovery, waste-to-energy, circular economy, GHG emissions reduction, etc.
  • Be accountable for and manage all waste management consultancy projects in Malaysia and in the Asia-Pacific region.
This is a senior position. In addition for this role are; to driving the waste management business, the candidate is expected to be a thought leader in waste management amongst our stakeholders (clients, governments, society, etc.) in Malaysia and Asia-Pacific; to keep up to date with regional market-specific developments and identify new service offerings to be developed or modified; Work closely with our branding, marketing and communications team to develop service-specific promotional and marketing materials; lead marketing and branding events, including conferences, exhibitions, etc.; to provide technical guidance to project teams, ensure quality and timely delivery of project outputs to the client’s expectations; to identify and nurture talents and build the waste management team; ensure ongoing career development, competencies, services and technologies within the team; responsible for the compliance to company policies and procedures, legislative requirements and act as a role model for ERE/Aurecon’s value and behaviours and to demonstrate safety and health leadership in all aspects of ERE/Aurecon’s business.

What can you bring to the team?
Firstly, you will share our genuine passion for re-imagining engineering and be someone that actively pursues continuous learning to help shape the future. You will also need the following :
  • Have at least 15 years of related experience in waste management, including waste planning, treatment, recovery, disposal, waste management policies, regulatory compliance, etc. for domestic/ solid waste and/or industrial/ hazardous waste.
  • Have a masters / bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, engineering, business, finance, or a related field.
  • Have a commercial mindset and experience and the ability and appetite to grow a business by winning work (existing and new clients).
  • Have a good understand current trends and developments on waste management, waste reduction and disposal, including related areas of sustainability, GHG emissions, waste-to-energy, circular economy, extended producer responsibility, renewables, etc.
  • Have a good understanding of government and private sector waste management priorities and ability to advise senior executives on risks, opportunities and strategies related to waste management.
  • Knowledge and working experience in waste management legislation, policies and procedures in Malaysia and internationally, such as the Scheduled Waste Regulations in Malaysia, and the Basel Convention on transboundary movement of hazardous wastes.
  • Have the experience in formulating and implementing waste management policies and strategies for government and/or private sector clients.
  • Have the ability to lead multiple consultancy projects and project teams while meeting deadlines and client’s expectations.
  • Have an inclusive leadership style - leading and developing people and have the experience in managing and developing direct reports.
  • Have fluency in English. Knowledge of one or more Asian languages will be an advantage.
  • Strong written, verbal communication and data presentation skills.
  • Industry accreditations in waste management will be advantageous.
