Job Summary


Please note: This position is located in Bemidji but may have the option to telework out of Thief River Falls or Crookston MnDOT offices. The employee would be required to complete a telework agreement.

This position will provide overall project management direction from inception to completion of projects; to be the primary project contact for other public agencies and the general public regarding project activities; to provide overall direction and leadership to technical project teams in the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques in the management of project activities for minor to moderate scale projects to meet the project requirements; to ensure consistency with MnDOT strategy, commitments and goals; and to ensure proper program execution and compliance with MnDOT, state and federal procedures, practices, regulations, and standards.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications for Engineering Specialist Senior:

Three (3) years of para-engineering experience (Engineering Specialist or equivalent) which demonstrates the following:

  • Experience working with techniques, tools, processes, and data related to the development of transportation projects. This may include scoping, scheduling, cost estimating, risk, stakeholder and document management.
  • Knowledge of MnDOT policies, procedures and state/federal rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of all phases of highway project development and contracting procedures.
  • Ability to write and interpret contract specifications and to develop full project plans.

Minimum Qualifications for Engineering Specialist:

Three (3) years of para-engineering experience (at the Transportation Specialist level or equivalent) that demonstrates the following:

  • Working knowledge of at least two of the following transportation related disciplines including, but not limited to: design, surveys, hydraulics, planning, project management, materials, right of way and/or construction.
  • Knowledge of MnDOT policies, procedures and state/federal rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of all phases of highway project development and contracting procedures.
  • Ability to write and interpret contract specifications and to develop full project plans.
