Senior Lead Production Welding Technician
  • Successful candidates are competent in many skills and capable of leading, organizing, mentoring, and teaching others.
  • Successful candidates shall be a minimum Production Welding Tech 6 with good attendance record, good performance record, and without disciplinary concerns.
  • Successful candidates have strong experience across multiple facets of the Production Organization.
  • Successful candidates will have a track record of performing tasks safely and to the required quality, with great attention to detail.
  • Successful candidates are expected to have excellent written and verbal communication and leadership skills.
  • Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate excellent planning and troubleshooting skills.
  • Candidates are expected to assist supervisors in assigning work, assisting with BSP requirements and monitoring progress.
  • Some weekend work is expected.
  • Senior Lead Technicians are subject to 30/60/90-day performance reviews.
Job Requirements
  • Responsible for Ensuring Technicians under instruction have thoroughly review and understand all available documentation prior to starting work including:
    • Applicable JSA’s
    • Applicable Production Order(s)
    • Applicable Quality Checksheets
    • Applicable Blueprints/Drawings
    • Applicable Manufacturing Methods
  • Conducts daily resource planning to ensure Technicians are assigned to correct tasks, taking into consideration shop priorities and Technician development needs. Ensure effective daily communication with all Lead Technicians with regard to resource planning.
  • Develops “best practices” for Leads and coaches Lead Technicians in best practices, including assessing performance against budget (budgeted hours, hours spent to date, hours to-go) and performance against schedule (scheduled completion dates for milestones).
  • Coaches Lead Technicians to use hours remaining and scheduled completion dates to plan resources at a detailed level to ensure on-time completion of tasks.
  • Assists Lead Technician, as needed, to ensure Job Requirements are being fulfilled satisfactorily and consistently.
  • Issues Work Permits on the floor, at the location of work, prior to beginning work.
  • Provides detailed information and suggestions for path forward to support Variation Notice (VN) process.
  • Participates and provides input/feedback and Lessons Learned regarding Planned vs Actual hours on Production Orders.
  • Ensures effective audits of work area have been performed at least weekly by Leads to ensure hand tools have proper guarding and are functioning properly, extension cords are in good working condition, liquid containers are properly labeled and being stored properly (including flammable cabinets), and other safety and quality indicators are being addressed.
  • Ensures Lead Technicians call for inspections at right time; no missed inspections.
  • Weekly audit of weld wire kan ban storage. Report deficiencies to Supervisors and Production Manager.
  • Ensures Technicians follow Hazardous Waste handling and disposal requirements.
  • Provides unbiased feedback to Supervisors and Production Managers regarding development opportunities for employees with high potential and/or employees needing further development/training.
  • Identifies Technicians that need additional training and supports Supervisors in the development training plans (dates, goals, and methods) for Technicians.
  • Participates in Drawing Reviews and Root Cause Analyses, as requested.
  • Mentors, trains, and develops Technicians on work to be performed. Educates less experienced Technicians by mentoring on best practices and “common pitfalls” to avoid (safety and quality considerations).
    • Identifies and communicates any additional formal training the trainee is required to take before completing a task (weld qualifications, confined space training, working at elevation training, forklift/scissor lift operator training, overhead crane training, etc.)
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime when needed, including some weekends.
  • Supports and Promotes diversity, inclusion, and belonging of all Team members.
